PAPERCLIP video: using ATLAS to search for two Higgs particles at once

26 October 2023

In a new Paperclip video, post-doc Luca Franco and PhD Ali Sidley explain a new paper from the ATLAS collaboration, on which they both collaborated. The Higgs particle was discovered at CERN in 2012, but its properties are still under investigation. This study looks at the formation of two Higgs particles simultaneously in proton collisions at the LHC accelerator at CERN. This shows how Higgs particles sense each other, the so-called self-interaction. Although such Higgs pairs are not yet observed, the researchers can estimate for the first time whether the standard model correctly predicts di-higgs events.
