COLLOQUIUM: “Sterile neutrinos and neutrinoless double beta decay” by Jordy de Vries (UvA)

2023-06-09 11:00 | 2023-06-09 12:00

Friday 9 June, 11.00h, at Nikhef/CWI in Z011.

Speaker: Jordy de Vries (UvA)

Title: “Sterile neutrinos and neutrinoless double beta decay”

Abstract:

The search for neutrinoless double beta decay, the process where 2 neutrons convert into 2 protons and 2 electrons but no neutrinos, is the most sensitive probe of lepton number violation. In this colloquium, I will explain why I am so excited about this topic (spoiler: due to the connection to the origin of neutrino masses, the existence of new, so-called, sterile neutrinos, and the wonderful associated experimental and theoretical challenges).

The colloquium is the kickoff for an extended theory-meets-experiment meeting in the afternoon.

This colloquium will be hybrid:
