COLLOQUIUM “Midterm Review of the FCC feasibility study” by Eric Laenen (UvA/Nikhef)

2024-02-16 11:00 | 2024-02-16 12:15

Friday 16 February, 11.00h, at Nikhef in the new Colloquium room

Speaker: Eric Laenen (UvA/Nikhef)

Title: “Midterm Review of the FCC feasibility study”

Abstract:
The 2020 update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics called for a technical and financial feasibility study of a “future hadron collider at CERN with a centre-of-mass energy of at least 100 TeV and with an electron-positron Higgs and electroweak factory as a possible first stage”. This study started in 2021, and will be completed in 2025. Recently the CERN council held a midterm review of the study, helped by various expert committees. In this talk I report on this review, and on the key points of attention for the remainder of the study.

In view of the upcoming European Strategy Update we will have several colloquia about future colliders. The format of some of these will be a bit different: instead of the usual 60 minutes, the talk will be 45 minutes, followed by a discussion of 30 minutes. The discussion will be focussed on the future collider presented in the colloquium, with comparisons to other proposed colliders to be made at a later stage. The first one will be on Friday Feburary 16 on the Future Circular Collider (FCC). People not interested in the discussion are free to leave after the talk.

This colloquium will be hybrid:
