Nikhef director Jorgen D’Hondt has appointed two associate directors to support him in representing Nikhef in national and international forums in particle and astroparticle physics.
The appointments were announced on Tuesday during the meeting of Nikhef’s program leaders, and will take effect on January 1, 2026. Raimond Snellings, group leader of the ALICE programme, has been named associate director for the particle physics portfolio. Patrick Decowski, group leader of the Dark Matter programme, will serve as associate director for astroparticle physics.
With these appointments, Nikhef aims to further strenghten its strategic presence and influence across a wide range of national and international organisations and large-scale scientific projects. “Nikhef is active in eleven research programmes, most of them embedded in major international collaborations. Strong and visible representation at this level is essential,” said D’Hondt.
The associate directors will focus on external representation and are not part of Nikhef’s directorate. For the time being, inside Nikhef, they will continue their roles as researchers alongside their new role.
