Nikhef PhD candidate Carolina da Silva Bolognani studies the decay of particles via the weak interaction into other particles. In this process, particles change their “flavour”, as physicists call it. At the same time, particles have a strong-force property: “colour”, which is affected by strong interaction. In her PAPERCLIP video, Bolognali explains how the interplay of flavour and colour offers insights into new physics, beyond what accelerators can directly observe. She will defend her PhD thesis on her work at Maastricht University on Monday 15 December.
