Nikhef PhD student Greta Brianti from the University of Twente is conducting research with the ATLAS detector at CERN into the decay of Higgs particles into b and c quarks. In doing so, she is exploring a new way to create Higgs particles: through the fusion of vector bosons. It is a difficult route, she explains in a new Nikhef PAPERCLIP, but artificial intelligence helps to extract the signals from the background. Brianti co-authored an ATLAS paper presenting the initial results.
