As part of 70 years CERN celebrations, from 9 – 16 October, Nikhef organised a roadshow along technical universities and colleges. The aim is to introduce CERN to them as an engineering organisation in which people from a broad range of technical backgrounds are needed.
The team visited the Technical University and Fontys Hogescholen in Eindhoven on 9 October, and the University of Groningen and Hanzehogeschool on 10 October. On 15 October, together with Haagsche Hogeschool, the team visited Delft University of Technology, and on 16 October the Twente University of Technology. In total, the roadshow reached some 1,500 students and internship supervisors.
The programme consisted of a general introduction to CERN, a detailed technical presentation that showed the wide range of competences needed to make CERN a success and the different opportunities to do an internship or apply for a job at CERN.
Jan Visser, Nikhef’s Industrial Liaison Officer for CERN, was one of the organisers of the roadshow. “It was an eye-opener for many. People had no idea that so many different technologies play a role at CERN and that there are also internships and work opportunities for them at CERN.”
