Scientists often see things just a little differently. They want to know how something works, how things are. They take nothing for granted and never stop asking questions. From a hidden micro-world to a mammoth meatball and dark matter… Discover the amazing world of science, at these lectures given by real scientists and researchers.

Nikhef researcher Auke-Pieter Colijn will lecture on Sunday, 12th November:

Is space full of noise and dark matter?

Particle physicist Auke-Pieter Colijn has very special work, building experiments to measure things we can’t see. There are still many things in space that we know very little about; one of the great mysteries is dark matter. We think there is as much as five times more dark matter than ordinary matter, but where did that idea come from, and what exactly is it? One mystery we do have an answer to is whether there is sound in space. We can test that with experiments. This Sunday morning, Auke-Pieter will recreate a piece of space with vacuum in the museum and explain to you exactly how it is! You’ll even discover what would happen to a candy in space….
