Title: “The LHCb Heavy Ion physics program with the upgraded detectors”

Abstract:
The LHCb experiment initiated an heavy ion physics program at the end of the Run 1 of the LHC, using collisions with the LHC ion beams but also with a gas fixed target install in the collision region.
Since then, many progresses were made and the potential of the experiment for Heavy Ion physics is still improving.
A second upgrade (Upgrade II) of the detector is planned for the Run 5 of the LHC (starting in 2036) to run at higher luminosities than currently. The LHCb Heavy Ion physics program will also benefit a lot from the improvements of the detectors needed for Upgrade II.
I will present the challenges to overcome in the detector and software design for LHCb Upgrade II and the potential of the future experiment for the Heavy Ion physics program.
