Virtual Dark Matter Day 2020

Happy #darkmatterday2020 from Nikhef, the Dutch National Institute for Subatomic Physics. All around the world research groups and institutes are trying to solve the biggest mystery in the universe: the nature of invisible matter that drives celestial movements. Why do we think it is there? How are we trying to find it? And have we found anything yet?

XENON-detector lab at Gran Sasso, Italy.

At Nikhef the Dark Matter group is involved in this research, with the XENONnT-detector at the underground Gran Sasso national laboratory in Italy. At present we cannot go there to show you around. Instead we have three short 360 degree videos with group members, talking about dark matter research. We are working on improving the sound quality.

Tina Pollmann just arrived at Nikhef, and talks about the reason why we think dark matter exists.

Auke-Pieter Colijn is a professor at the University of Amsterdam and Nikhef, and tells us how we catch dark matter.

Group leader Patrick Decowski, also at  the University of Amsterdam and Nikhef, shows the current results of the hunt for dark matter particles.
