About

Nikhef PhD Council

The Nikhef PhD Council is a group of PhD students that aims to contribute to the quality of the education and research environment of Nikhef. Its goal is to get feedback from the PhD students on education (BND schools, topical lectures) and other aspects of life at Nikhef (finding your way, teaching obligations, CERN visits, etc.). In order to obtain feedback, the PhD Council organizes lunches for which all PhD students are invited. Feedback can also be given to the members of the PhD Council directly, either in person or digitally. The PhD Council communicates the obtained feedback to the Nikhef staff through the meetings of the Educational Board (OSAF) where two members of the Council are present. Moreover, the Council provides general information for the PhD students through this website.

Structure of the PhD Council

The PhD Council consists of approximately six PhD students, ideally all from different research groups within Nikhef. Three of them form the board: they are responsible for planning the meetings, setting the agenda, maintaining the website and communicating with the Nikhef staff. After a year (around November) the three board members resign and are succeeded by the three remaining members of the council. Three new members for the Council are recruited, preferably in the 2nd year of their PhD. The PhD Council meets six times per year. Minutes of the meetings are published on the website and can be found here.
