The earliest people by the name Lapikas and variants appear in the second half of the 18th century in the baptisation, marriage and burial books of Namestovo and the nearby (about 5 km) villages Bobrov and Klin. There seem to be three branches with descendants in the 21st century, starting with Mathias Lapikasz(cik) (1A/1B) in Namestovo, an other Mathias Lapikass(t)ik in Bobrov (1C), and a Joannes Lapikasscik (1D/1E) in Klin. These people could be cousins, but an older generation could not yet be found. From the Georg Lapikas (1F) and his son Andreas, who lived in Cadca, no further descendants were found.
To make things difficult to sort out:
- Mathias Lapikasz(cik) in Namestovo (1B) has two sons Matthias and Joannes in the second generation.
- Mathias Lapikass(t)ik in Bobrov (1C) has two sons Matthias and Joannes in the second generation.
- Joannes Lapikasscik in Klin (1D and 1E) have three sons Matthias, Joannes and Simon in the second generation.
There is ample room for mixing all these men named Matthias and Joannes.
The oldest book with records on births in Namestovo starts in 1757.

Namestovo Branch |
Namestovo is a small village, at the time the Lapikas family lived there belonging to Austria-Hungary, presently in Orava County, Slovakia near the border with Poland. The town was known for its textile trade in the nineteenth century. The trade fell sharply by the end of the century due to the lack of modernizing. This is probably the reason that many of the young people eventually emigrated from this region.
1A. MATHIAS LAPIKASZCIK, born before about 1745, deceased after 1769, married before 1769
SUSANA NN, with whom he lives in Bobrov (1769).
NB This MATHIAS LAPIKASZCIK could be the same person as the MATHIAS LAPIKASZ nr. 1B below. If so, his wife Susanna should have died between 1769 and 1771
1B. MATHIAS LAPIKASZ, born 1740/41, deceased/buried Namestovo 13-1-1816 ("viduus Mathias Lapikas, 65 anni, sacramentis provisus"), lives in Namestovo (1816),
married before 1771 (start marriage records Namestovo: 1778)
CATHARINA NN, born 1746/47, deceased/buried Namestovo 6-2-1802 ("mulier Catharina Lapikass, 55 anni, sacramentis provisa"). They lived in Namestovo (1776..1802) in house nr. 38 (1786), in Jasenica (1783)
1C. MATHIAS LAPIKASS(T)IK (LAPIKASZTIK), born before about 1730, deceased after 1787, baptisation witness in Zubrohlava (1770..1787),
marries probably two times:
married 1o before 1755
EVA NN, deceased after 1775, with whom he lives in Bobrov (1761..1775),
married 2o before 1778
MARIA NN, deceased after 1787, baptisation witness (1785).
They live in Bobrov (1778..1787).
1DD. JOANNIS LAPIKASTIK, voor about 1740, married before 1764
MARINA NN.
1D. JOANNES LAPIKASSCIK, born 1732/33, deceased Klin 10-2-1796, buried Zubhrolava ("viduus Joannes Lapikasztik" 63 year, lives in Klin, RK), marriage witness in Zubrohlava (1785) then living in Bobrov,
lives in Klin (1774, 1796),
married before 1764
ELISABETH(A) NN, born 1735/36, deceased Klin 21-8-1795, buried Zubhrolava ("mulier Elisabeth Lapikasstik" 59 year, lives in Klin, RC, voorzien van de sacramenten). They live in Namestovo (1764), Klin (1770..1795).
This Maria Lapikasscik is very probably identical to:
1E. JOANIS LAPIKASZ, born before about 1745, married before 1767
CATHARINA NN. They live in Klin (1767, 1782), Namestovo (1781).

Matthias Haller, born 1767/68, married Bobrov RC 31-1-1798 ("Matthias Haller, 30, Tribavansis e Moravia, x Eva Simcsak, 16, Bobroviensis, testes Josephus Majovszky & Thomas Krisstovcsak")
Eva Simcsak (Timcsak?), born 1781/82.
