Note: it is important to realize that from Schiphol Airport there are frequent train connections to Amsterdam (about 8 per hour). They go either to Central Station (takes about 18 min.) or to station Amsterdam Zuid/WTC (takes about 7 min.). Between Central Station and Amsterdam Zuid/WTC there is a tram connection (tram no. 5) via the center and the museum district and a (fast) tram connection (no. 51) running via Amstel Station.
The Free University is located near the train station Amsterdam Zuid/WTC. Tram no. 5 and the fast tram no. 51, both of which also provide the connection to the center of Amsterdam, stop at this station and can be used to get to the Free University (destination Amstelveen, get off at next stop 'VU'). This stop is next to the Main Building, where the symposium will be helt. It is also possible to walk from Amsterdam Zuid/WTC (about 10 min., take 'Zuid'-exit and turn right). For more details, maps, etc. you can click here.
NIKHEF can be reached from Central Station by tram no. 9. Get off at crossing Middenweg/Kruislaan and walk down the Kruislaan in the direction of the railway bridge. Pass underneath the bridge and continue. Take the second entrance left and follow signs. From Amstel Station take city bus 15 to just after crossing Middenweg/Kruislaan. Walk back to Kruislaan, turn left towards the railway bridge (rest, see above). For more details, maps, etc. you can click here.
