Summer Student Program at CERN

Each year, CERN provides the opportunity for students in High Energy Physics to visit the centre and to participate in their experimental program.   The program includes a series of lectures focussing on a wide range of topics in subatomic physics.  Both theoretical and experimental aspects are discussed.   The duration of the visit can be adjusted according to individual needs but is bound to a maximum period of stay.  On the other hand, a minimum period of stay is required while attending the lectures is obligatory.  Details can be found here.

As the total number of students is limited, in most countries a pre-selection of candidates is made.  For the Netherlands, each year only 5 - 6 students are admitted.  Before applying you are strongly encouraged to contact the chair holder and study advisor.  Applicants should be in their fourth or fifth year of their studies.

Four study points (4 SP) can be granted to students who have successfully participated in the summer student program.  Towards the end of their visit or in any case shortly after, a written report on (one of) their research activities has to be presented.  Examples of reports can be found below.
