Software

The following tools are available to assist the user in operating the AST:

ast

is an interactive tool enabling the user to initialize registers and counters, start and stop the AST, read data from a file and download it to the AST's FIFO, and continuously monitor the status of the AST; the tool is written in C; there is a version that runs on a 2TP-VME module [4], and there is one that runs on a SUN workstation with a PT-SBS915 SBUS-to-VME interface; it can easily be adapted to run on other types of VME-master.

ast_data

generates event-data in ascii-format for the AST, in a format suitable for the ast tool; the number of events, the size of the events and the pattern of the eventdata can be selected.
