If you press the <Help> key (on some computers this may be the
key marked F12) and stedi is able to find the file stedi.hlp either in the
current directory or the default help directory (see above), then this file
will be displayed. If buffer eight is available, the help file will be
read into that buffer, or if not the first lower buffer available will be
used. The buffer will be automatically set in `view only' mode so that the
help file will not be written away if accidentally altered. (For more
information on the view only mode, see the chapter on the status bar.) The
help file consists of a very brief summary of all stedi commands to serve
as a reminder. Pressing the <Help> key (or the F12 key if there
is no <Help> key) a second time will cause the editor to return
to the buffer which was being edited before the help facility was called.
Each time the user asks for help this way the help file is read in freshly.
This allows for experimentation with respect to what is read in it.
