The Control-B command gets the word that is in the Ctrl-A buffer and uses it for searching for the next occurrence of that word in the text. This is particularly useful when the word of the previous Ctrl-A search is not in view, either because the cursor was moved around, or the word found was altered or the user switched to another buffer.
