Helium leak test of a Detector Box.

Leak test of a real Detector Box in a vacuum vessel. There will be 2 mbar of Helium in the Detector Box for leak testing.

    Three Al foils, 200 micron thick, has been leak tested with 15 mbar Helium under the foil and a He poluttion detector on the outside. Foil [1-2] were 'Cold formed' in 19 forming steps (3 molds needed). Foil [3] was 'Super plastic formed' in 1 forming step at 520 degrees.

    The foil has been leak tested with 15 mbar Helium under the foil and a He polution detector on the outside. The leak rate is about 1.10E-6 mbar.liter/sec at the inside corners.

    Three samples of the foil are viewed in a electron microscope to see how the material looks after the extreem deformation:
