The detector supports provide the mounts for the left and right Velo detectors.
The supports are fixed in the X and Y direction and can be driven by the center frame
via kinematical mounts. Both supports can be moved independently from each other in the X direction.
The supports are made of stainless steel 316L.
A rectangular bellow is welded to each of the supports.
The bellows are with their flanges mounted on the inside of the vacuum vessel. A thin corrugated
aluminum box (so-called RF box) is mounted on the opposite of the bellows.
Both the RF box connection to the support and the bellows connection to the vacuum vessel are
vacuum-sealed via viton O-rings. These O-rings have respectively a diameter of 4mm and 6mm, and
the welds are vulcanized. In this manner, the system is bake-able up to 180 ºC.
The complete assembly constitutes the separation between the secondary and primary vacuum. An
overview of the detector supports mounted in the center frame is given in Figure 1.

Figure 2: Shows that the base plate of the support is fitted with three slots and three faces. These slots and faces are precisely machined with respect to corresponding spheres and represent the receiving parts for the detector mounts..

In the center of the machined surfaces there are M8 taped holes to fix the detector in its position. The thin aluminum boxes also act as RF shields and wake field suppressors.
The boxes will be connected to the flexible wake field suppressors (not indicated in the figures). These flexible suppressors are fixed upstream (in the experiment) to the beam pipe, and downstream, to the exit foil.
The installation of the detector supports is accomplished by means of a lifting frame (see Fig. 3). The detector supports is inserted from the upstream side of the vacuum vessel.
The lifting frame hangs on a crane from the concrete sealing of the area. The vessel is mounted with a rail to guide the supports into the vessel. This rail and the lifting device will be removed after mounting of the supports. During transport and handling, precautions will be taken in order to keep the supports and the vacuum vessel UHV clean.
