Welcome to the Web Site where the result of the design effort of the Electrical Feed Boxes (DFB) for the LHC Test String 2 and LHC are presented. The design is taking place in the form of a Collaboration involving members of the LHC Division at CERN and of the MT Department at NIKHEF .
The DFB , electrically connects the magnets to their power supplies through current leads which transport the current from room temperature to the magnets operating at 1.8 K. The DFB is contained in a vacuum vessel operating at 300 K. It is the function of the DFB to mechanically support the current leads, appropriately cool them and provide sufficient thermal insulation to minimise heat loads. The Collaboration meets once a month until the end of April 1997 when a Technical Specification Document should be ready for tendering the first DFB destined to LHC Test String 2. This document will include drawings, a technical description of the DFB. You can follow the evolution of the design by regularly looking at the drawings, flow schemes , calculations , layouts, etc.
