Nikhef-nieuwsbericht
Amsterdam, 17 juli 2012 – Nikhef is door een panel van internationale experts als ‘excellent’ beoordeeld. ‘Excellent’ is de hoogst haalbare kwalificatie. Alle acht NWO-instituten (naast Nikhef: ASTRON, CWI, NIOZ, NSCR, SRON, AMOLF en DIFFER) kregen deze excellente beoordeling. Uit de evaluaties over de periode 2005-2010 spreekt grote waardering voor het baanbrekende onderzoek, voor de nationale functie en faciliteiten van de instituten en voor de mondiale toppositie binnen hun wetenschappelijke veld. Door de internationale panels is expliciet het belang van blijvende steun van NWO aan de afzonderlijke instituten benadrukt.
Frank Linde, directeur Nikhef: "Ik ben uiteraard heel content met deze fantastische beoordeling. Het panelrapport bevestigt wederom de kwaliteit van Nikhef en onderstreept dat wij in ons onderzoeksprogramma de juiste keuzes maken."
Conform het vernieuwde Standaard Evaluatie Protocol (SEP) is meer aandacht besteed aan de maatschappelijke relevantie van het onderzoek. Uit de evaluaties blijkt dat die relevantie evident is en dat de instituten bij uitstek een broedplaats zijn voor innovatie en nieuwe technologie. Om te bevorderen dat kennis goed gebruikt wordt, kan de bestaande samenwerking met het bedrijfsleven en maatschappelijke organisaties nog verder worden uitgebouwd. Om samenwerking en verdere ontwikkeling van de instituten te stimuleren heeft het Algemeen Bestuur van NWO een eenmalige bijdrage van 12 miljoen euro aan de instituten toegekend.

"It is remarkable how the Netherlands, thanks to this unique organization, play a central role in particle- and astroparticle physics while the level of Dutch investments are just at the European average. Nikhef, with FOM-Nikhef in the centre, is a unique and very efficient model, giving the Dutch research a much larger international impact than if the corresponding resources were distributed among a set of independent university groups and institutes, as is the case in most other countries in the world."
"Nikhef has also a strong and innovative outreach and educational programme which is internationally recognised. Nikhef is developing a strong knowledge transfer portfolio. Its interaction with the rest of the society is in many ways pioneering and increasing, and may well become an international model."
