Title: Characterizing new physics at colliders: from indirect tests to the LHC

Abstract:
I will review some of the strategies to search for new physics at colliders.
I describe indirect searches, based on precision tests of the Standard Model
predictions for loop-mediated processes. For instance, the results obtained with
precision flavor physics have a serious impact on the physics scenarios
that the LHC might face. I will then discuss how the LHC data analysis can be
used to characterize the underlying new physics theory, enhancing the physics
reach of the LHC beyond its well known discovery potential.
