Title: “The perfect reflection: mirrors and mirror coatings for gravitational-wave detectors”
Abstract:
Highly-reflective mirrors are essential components of gravitational-wave detectors. In particular the mirror coatings are very critical and actually one of the limiting factors to the detector sensitivity. In this talk I will give an introduction to gravitational-wave detectors and the requirements on their mirrors. I will explain how highly-reflective coatings work, and what current coatings research is working on to improve these coatings.
