Title: “LAr-TPCs for rare event searches: status, prospects, and issues”
Abstract:
Since the early 2000s, the importance of the argon and xenon time projection chambers has been crucial in dark matter and neutrino fields, thanks to the intrinsic radio purity of the target, the efficient collection of charge/light signals, and the event reconstruction capability that this technology can provide. An impressive implementation of this concept is the DarkSide-20k detector, whose goal is to perform a WIMP search in background-free mode, becoming the most sensitive dark matter experiment this decade.
Although this type of particle detector is robust and successful, the sensitivity required by the new generation of rare-events research experiments is pushing this technology to extreme and ambitious limits, making it face unprecedented challenges. In this talk, we will discuss some recent results and the current requirements of the new generation of particle detectors based on liquefied noble gases, presenting novel studies that aim to open new avenues and overcome the current limits of this technology.
