Title: “AI and the future of fundamental physics”

Abstract:
In this talk, I will look back at some of the key developments that deep learning has brought to fundamental physics over the last decade and highlight these advances through my own research and collaborations. I will then discuss some current methods for particle tracking and event classification. The second half of the talk will be devoted to the years ahead. Here I argue that large language models can play a transformative role, not just as analytical tools, but as an integral part of our theoretical exploration of fundamental physics. Finally, I will also discuss the need for new structures and collaborations for AI in fundamental physics within the European research landscape.
