Education and research in practice
Discover how you can explore the world of particle physics and contribute to research at Nikhef during your studies.
Education and collaboration
Nikhef works closely with various universities in the Netherlands and also offers courses.
During your studies, you can delve deeper into particle physics and astroparticle physics through lectures, projects and research assignments.
For admission and enrolment, please contact the university of your choice.
Bachelor’s
(Astroparticle) particle physics is part of the Physics and Astronomy programme and is typically offered starting in the second year of the Bachelor’s programme.
Nikhef collaborates with others:
Radboud Universiteit
Universiteit van Amsterdam
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
Universiteit Utrecht
Rijksuniversiteit Groningen
Maastricht University
During your bachelor’s programme, you can conduct a research project in collaboration with Nikhef.
Master’s
Nikhef, together with the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit, offers the English-language master’s programme:
Particle and Astroparticle Physics
Students from other universities can take courses from this programme as part of their own master’s degree, for example:
During the master’s programme, you’ll explore questions such as:
- What are the smallest building blocks of matter?
- What forces act on these particles?
- Why does the universe consist of matter rather than antimatter?
You will also conduct research, for example at Nikhef or at CERN in Geneva.
