Title: "Nanoelektronica en verbeelding in fysica van elementaire deeltjes / Imaging and imagination in particle physics"
Abstract:
Semiconductor technology has to be exploited to improve different tasks in particle phyics experiments. In particular, CMOS imager chips present similarities to particle detectors. Fine-grained, sub-micron position measurements with sub-ns timing precision can be made in a relatively large fiducial volume. Miniaturization of functional blocks allows in-situ integration of information processing. Limitations are presented by the power density that can be tolerated, and the practical and economical accessibility of the most advanced technologies.
