First CMS results: Charged hadron pseudorapidity and transverse momentum distributions in proton-proton collisions in CMS at the LHC
Abstract:
Measurements of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity distributions of charged hadrons produced in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9 and 2.36 TeV will be presented. For non-single diffractive collisions, the average charged-hadron transverse momentum and pseudorapidity density near mid-rapidity are compared with previous measurements in ppbar and pp collisions. The successful commissioning and excellent performance of the minimum bias trigger and the silicon tracker system of the CMS experiment at the startup of the LHC in December, 2009 will be demonstrated.These are the first published results at the LHC at the highest collision energy ever achieved in a laboratory.
