Mischke elected Fellow Institute of Physics

11 July 2018

André Mischke (Nikhef, UU) was elected as Fellow of the Institute of Physics, an internationally leading scientific membership society working to advance physics. Fellowship is the highest level of membership attainable within the Institute. With this decision, the Institute of Physics recognizes Mischke’s accomplishments in physics and the impact he has made in the field.

Mischke (1972) studied physics and mathematics at the Philipps University of Marburg, and earned his PhD at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. After a post-doc position in Darmstadt and at Nikhef, as well as research visits in the United States and Switzerland, he began at Utrecht University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy.

In 2008, Mischke was awarded a Vidi grant, and an ERC Starting/Consolidator Grant in 2009. Mischke is a member of the Young Academy of Europe since 2012 and served as its first President from 2012-2014. In 2014, he received an ERC Proof of Concept grant for his proposal for using technology from the field of particle physics to improve the detection of breast cancer, followed by an NWO Vici grant in 2015. In 2016, Mischke was elected for membership of Academia Europaea.
