Measurement of the top quark-pair production cross section with ATLAS in pp collisions at s√ = 7 TeV

Measurement of the top quark-pair production cross section with ATLAS in pp collisions at s√ = 7 TeV

The first top quark physics paper of the ATLAS collaboration showed that the LHC was from then on the worlds most powerful top quark factory.
This paper showed first evidence for top quark production in ATLAS with just a minuscule fraction of the data: in 2010 we only had 1/50.000th of the current dataset.
This measurement was the first ATLAS publication that required all aspects of the detector and reconstruction to work: muons, electrons, tau, jets reconstruction, as well as jet flavor tagging. It was a gargantuan effort for that reason with strong Nikhef contributions and Nikhef leadership.
