Forum on Tracking Detector Mechanics 2015 hosted at Nikhef

15 juni 2015

Nikhef facilitated the 4th Forum on Tracking Detector Mechanics, from 15-17 June 2015.

It was a very successful forum; a record number of 100 participants from 8 countries enjoyed 27 sessions on materials, detector design, cooling issues, etc. The added value of this Forum is the crossing of borders between the engineering communities of both upgrades of present detectors (CMS, Alice, ATLAS, LHCb, Bell II)  and future ones (Mu3E, CBM, ILD).

The organizing committee reserved ample time for discussion after each presentation, enabling the exchange of a lot of experiences and common challenges. Guest talks from NLR (National Aerospace Lab) on 3D-printing of metals, and from Quadrant on advanced engineering plastics were welcome triggers of innovative thoughts.

The Forum was enlivened by guided tours at Nikhef and surrounding institutes, and an excellent conference dinner in the city center.
