GRAPPA physicist Gianfranco Bertone presented his new book TUSSEN TWEE ONEINDIGHEDEN (The upcoming revolution in our understanding of the cosmos) in a Nikhef lunchtime talk last week. This book is the Dutch translation of his book SOSPESI TRA DUE INFINITI. The English translation A TALE OF TWO INFINITIES will be released on October 14. The lunchtalk can be viewed below.

Astronomy is on the verge of a revolution. Thanks to the spectacular advances of recent decades, we no longer depend entirely on light to study the cosmos. Cosmic rays, neutrinos, and gravitational waves have given us new senses to penetrate the universe to its most inaccessible corners.
We can put those extra senses to good use. After all, we live in a universe full of enigmatic entities about which we know little or nothing, such as black holes, dark matter and dark energy. Thanks to the extraordinary potential of “multimessenger astronomy,” we may soon be able to unravel some of these fundamental mysteries.
