Three 360 degree videos for Virtual Nikhef Dark Matter Day

2 November 2020

Dark matter is the greatest enigma of contemporary physics, and many researchers around the world are working on an answer. Also at Nikhef in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Nikhef celebrated the annual international Dark Matter Day this time with three interviews in virtual reality with its own dark matter researchers Tina Pollmann, Auke-Pieter Colijn and Patrick Decowski. The short conversations about the nature of dark matter, the hunt for dark matter particles with the XENON detector in Italy, and the current state of affairs were filmed in 360 degree at Nikhef Amsterdam. This allows the viewers to experience the environment more than just on video and to look around in it for themselves, possibly with VR glasses.

The three videos are available on www.nikhef.nl/virtualtours as YouTube links. In the week of Halloween (26 – 31 October) numerous events were organized worldwide in connection with research into dark matter. Most of them were exclusively online because of the corona pandemic.
