International Day of Women & Girls in Science 2023

11 February 2023

Today, 11 February 2022 is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the United Nations General Assembly declared 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

This year, Nikhef researcher Clara Nellist (ATLAS) uses her super popular TikTok-account ParticleClara to interview her female colleagues about their lives as researchers in (astro)particle physics. Clara has gained some 200,000 followers in just over two years with her selfie videos about particle research at CERN and her own life as a particle researcher.

For International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Clara interviewed Nikhef researchers Heleen Mulder (Theory), Pranati Kharbanda (ATLAS), Kelly Weerman (Neutrinos/KamLAND-Zen) and Maricke Flierman (Dark Matter).
