Nikhef PhD student Joost van Hofslot from the University of Groningen built one of the key components of the eEDM experiment in Groningen. This experiment is searching for subtle asymmetries in the electric field of electrons. The asymmetry being sought is linked to possible differences between matter and antimatter. Van Hofslot created the required laser cooling of bright beams of ultracold BaF molecules. In this Paperclip video, he explains why and how.
