Title: “Catching a glimpse of the invisible axion and other WISPs”

Abstract:
The interest in axions, axion-like particles and other weakly interacting slim particles (WISPs) as constituents of a dark sector of nature has strongly increased over the last years. New approaches are required to probe for such particles. A vibrant community is developing, constructing and operating corresponding experiments, so that most promising parameter regions will be probed within the next about 15 years. At DESY in Hamburg, larger scale projects are pursued: the “light-shining-through-a-wall” experiment ALPS II in the HERA tunnel is aiming for starting a first science run at the end of 2021. Preparations for the solar helioscope BabyIAXO is ongoing, while the dark matter haloscope MADMAX is entering its second R&D phase. This talk will give an overview on the experimental axion landscape with some focus on the activities ongoing at DESY.
