Join us for another Maastricht Young Academy (MYA) x Lumière movie night & panel discussion on Monday 17 February, 19:30, at cinema Lumière! We’ll screen the documentary The Faraway, Nearby, followed by a panel discussion with experts. The Faraway, Nearby tells the story of Joe Weber, a scientist who explored the detection of gravitational waves. It is a fascinating documentary about science and the emotions that guide scientific research. In the discussion, we will also talk about the Einstein Telescope.

Our panel members are:

-Nikhef researcher Prof. Em. Jo van den Brand, emeritus full professor of physics at Maastricht University (UM), former spokesperson of the Virgo Collaboration of gravitational wave research and leading force for Einstein Telescope.

-Nikhef researcher Dr. Gideon Koekoek, associate professor of physics at UM, and coordinator of educational and outreach programmes for gravitational physics.

-Dr. Lotte Krabbenborg, associate professor of public participation in science and technology development, Institute for Science in Society (ISiS) at Radboud University.

-Prof. Cyrus Mody, full professor in the history of science, technology, and innovation at UM, and Maastricht University STS (Science, Technology, and Society Studies) programme director.

The ticket comes with a free drink token!
