Physics Research:
L2 b-tagging at the D0 experiment and the Silicon Track Trigger
The Silicon Track Trigger (STT) at D0 provides tracks with a good impact parameter
resolution at the second trigger level.
This makes it possible to enhance the online selection efficiency
for events with b-quarks, leading to higher selection efficiencies for processes
such as Z->bb_bar or H->bb_bar.
The STT tracks are used as input to a newly developed very fast b-identification algorithm
which will be run at the second trigger level.
The algorithm combines various track quantities in a
way which greatly enhances the online
b-identification efficiency compared to simpler cut methods and runs within 1 microsec.
Such b-identification
algorithms are used for the first time at a second level trigger.
