DCS - Replace Chamber Procedure
Nov 26 2004

Chamber Replacement Procedure.

  1. Assumption: the PVSS Cosmics project is active.
    Look for the NikConsole panel:

    and press the Configure button.

  2. The following panel will appear:

The table shows the current situation: i.e. the BOL number, the ID number of the DCS-box and its serial number.

  3. To modify a certain position, double-click on the row you want to modify and the following panel will appear (in this case position 3):

    Three input parameters are required:
BOL: the logical number of the chamber (range 0-100)
ID: the node number of the ELMB inside the DCS-box (range 1-127). You can find this number on the top of the red front panel. This number is very important!
Serial-number: DCS-box serial number. To be found on the bottom of the red front panel.

Below you can find an example of a DCS-box with ID 56 and serial number B440.

  4. After you have entered the new parameters and pressed OK, the Chamber Modification panel will look as follows:

The yellow color indicates that the position has been modified with new parameters. You can always go back to the original situation by pressing the Reset button. It is possible to modify more than one position.

  5. It is not allowed to have multiple DCS-boxes with the same ID. Therefore the procedure checks, when you press OK, for multiple ID's. Remember that there is an additional DCS-box for the scintillators with ID number 40. Whenever there is a double node ID, an error panel will appear with a message indicating what is wrong. See the following example:

Unfortunately, there is no recipe to deal with this problem (yet) and you have to quit this procedure. Whenever you encounter this problem, please contact Henk Boterenbrood or Robert Hart.

  6. In case all ID's are unique on the CANbus, the procedure will update your modifications and generates and installs a new OPC configuration file. After a few seconds the following panel will appear:

  7. As indicated by the panel, the PVSS Cosmics project has to be restarted now. Look for the PVSS console (it may be minimised in the task bar) and it should look as follows:

Press the 'Traffic light' button with the red light and acknowledge the question whether you want to stop all managers or not. After some time the console looks as follows:

  8. Press the 'Traffic light' button with the green light and wait until all managers turn green again.
Now go to step 4 of the ColdStart menu and finish that procedure.
