The oldest book with records on births in Namestovo starts in 1757. It has not yet been worked through completely. The oldest three persons by the name Lapikas found here, Matthias (1A), Matthias (1B) and Joannes (1C), could be brothers, cousins or even more distant relatives. It is even possible that Matthias (1A) and Matthias (1B) are one and the same person, who has married a second time.

1A. MAT(T)HIAS LAPIKAS(Z), married before 1776 KATHARINE NN. They lived in Namestovo, a small village, at that time belonging to Austria-Hungary, presently in Orava County, Slovakia near the border with Poland. The town was known for its textile trade in the nineteenth century. The trade fell sharply by the end of the century due to the lack of modernizing. This is probably the reason that many of the young people eventually emigrated from this region.

1B. MAT(T)HIAS LAPIKAS, married before 1794 ANNA NN.

1C. JOANNES LAPIKASSCIK, married before 1778 ELLIS NN.
