BIG GRID officially granted!
The proposal for a science-wide national grid infrastructure is now officially granted by NWO with a budget of 28.8 M€. Last year the BIG GRID proposal was submitted by Nikhef in collaboration with NCF and NBIC, requesting a budget of 29.9 M€ over 4 years.
'BIG GRID' aims to support many scientific disciplines in managing the 'distributed data explosion'. In many sciences data are distributed by origin and many experiments require more data processing power than ever can be located in one single facility. A nation-wide, globally embedded, grid-based e-Science infrastructure, will be able to handle this challenge.
