Chipboard development
Following pages contains descriptions (schematics and layouts) of the chipboards developed in the NIKHEF group in frame of the Medipix collaboration.

Single chipboard (developed in CERN)
Single chipboard (developed in CERN)
The very first Medipix2 charrier board was developed in CERN. For the communication and powering of the Medipix2 chip is used the VHDCI connector, for high voltage connection the is used standard LEMO connector. The dimensions of the board are 79 mm x 49 mm (for detailed dimensions description see this file). For the schematics and layout files go to download page (password protected).
NIKHEF single chipboard
Single chipboard
Improved version of the single Medipix2 chipboard developed in NIKHEF with cooperation with PANalytical. To maintain backwards compatibility with the current read out systems the VHDCI connector with the same pinout like in case of the previous single chipboard is used. The difference is, that now the connector has 90 degree orientation according to the printed circuit board. The dimensions of this single chipboard are 58 mm x 43 mm. Quad chipboard
Quad chipboard
This is the latest version of the chip carrier board developen in NIKHEF. The board design follows nowadays trend of large area detector arrays. It is projected to accomodate quad detectors (four Medipix2 chips with common sensor chip) with accent to the minimalization of the dead space among neighbouring boards. From the top it can be tiled without any dead space, from the sides the dead space is minimized to few mm. The dimensions of the board are 74 mm x 56 mm (described in more details here). For the wire bonds protection the board is supplied assembled on the duralumin block. The block can be also with benefits used to fix the board in the measurement setup and for cooling of the Medipix2 chips. For the schematics and layout files go to download page (password protected).
Octal chipboard (octal sensors are not available)
Octal chipboard
The octal chip carrier board is the biggest one developen in NIKHEF. It can accomodate from one to eight Medipix2 chips, which can be read out serially or in parallel. The dimensions of the 12-layer PCB are 56 mm x 110 mm. The board is usually assembled on the protective metal block. For the schematics and layout files go to download page (password protected).

Chipboard for Relaxd project
First iteration of the chipboard for Relaxd project still using wire-bond technology for connection of the signals of the chip but it is ready to use the new 3GBps readout interface. This chipboards connected to the readout will be mounted on the metal frame which serves as an support and cooling device.
