The Infineon PAROLI is an integrated circuit containing 12 optical -> electrical or electrical -> optical convertors for 1 Gbit/s links in view of possible use in combination with S-link boards with electrical input/output. A test board has been constructed. The board functions reliable. It is now at CERN (information : Erik van der Bij).

 

 

Picture of the test board. Two PAROLI chips (one receiver and one sender) with gold-colored cooling ribs can be seen at the top centre of the picture. The connectors left and right from the PAROLI chips are Gigabit Ethernet connectors, carrying PECL signals. These are converted to LVDS signals on the board. The board fits horizontally in a 19" rack inside a suitable box.
