A plug-on board, directly
mounted on the B-field sensor PCB,
supports the use of normal flat cable instead of
the user unfriendly cable used in ATLAS: This cable is approved for use
in LHC, but not always necessarily for other applications, such as
magnet field mapping. SimBad.also supports
broadcasts in the new addressing scheme. This new scheme uses
a one-wire protocol for addressing, but the hardware implementation
allows broadcasts
also. Broadcasts may initiate responses from several modules, while the
response is of no interest and only leads to bus contention. The data
exchange (set-up and read-out) is still SPI. The returning signal SDO
is suitable for 3.3V level inputs.
The board is produced at Cern. The connector orientation is different
from the picture.
