The title is not really correct, since the ELMB, powered by this
supply has more tasks. It monitors temperature and sets-up and monitors
the the front-end electronics. The supply powers the split-box some 100 m away. From
there two strings run into the Atlas experiment. Each string has
roughly 10 ELMBs, supporting B-field sensors, temperature sensors and
it connects to the front-end electronics on the muon-detectors for
set-up and monitor purposes. The supply unit combines the power and a
CAN-node into one thick cable. The status of the power unit can be
monitored via a CAN-bus also. The CAN-buses are connected in the back
of the rack. But the supplies also have a CAN-connector on the
front-panel and these are used to monitor the traffic on the bus for
debugging purposes. These are connected to the CANspy
units. Again,
these are controlled by and bused to CAN-buses.
