January 2012: migrating to a new WiFi network
We will replace all Cisco WiFi access points by equipment from Aruba Networks. We will start the work in the N-building and keep you informed about the progress.
What will change for you?
- Registration of WiFi devices for guests enabled via web interface ('self-registering portal'), you do not need to contact the helpdesk anymore to register guests usage.
- We will update the EduRoam protocol to WPA-2, which is conform the standard configuration on many EduRoam sites.
- We have better monitoring and control tools for the new WiFi network, which should result in a better quality of the WiFi coverage in the buildings.
WiFi network names:
- eduroam
- this is the preferred network for all users with a Nikhef account
- no registration required
- NIKHEF-W
- this is the name of the WiFi network in case you have a device which can not be configured for EduRoam
- mac address registration needed
- Nikhef-guest
