HOTEL RESERVATION

Unfortunately reasonably priced hotel rooms are very scarce in Amsterdam, especially in the period around Easter. To be able to still offer you a place in the city region, we have made a provisonal block reservation at two hotels.

You should make your reservation via our secretary Mrs Anja van Dulmen (Anja.van.Dulmen@nikhef.nl), NOT LATER THAN April 7. After this date the block reservation period is cancelled and it will be very hard if not impossible to find something for you. (Note that the other hotels listed on the NIKHEF web page are not available in this period.)

By plane

Starting at Schiphol Airport by train to 'Amsterdam Centraal Station' (15-20 min., 7 x per hour). Thereafter taxi to the hotel.

By train

Exit at 'Amsterdam Centraal Station'. Thereafter taxi to the hotel.

By car

Parking in Amsterdam is difficult and expensive while foreign cars suffer risks from criminality. Therefore, (free) parking at the WCW area, where NIKHEF is located, is recommended. Please note the access regulations for the WCW area that are listed below. Thereafter taxi to the hotel.

Starting at Schiphol Airport by train to 'Amsterdam Muiderpoort', changing at 'Amsterdam Centraal Station' (25-30 min., 4 x per hour). From there you may take either a taxi to NIKHEF or walk (20 min). By car

TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN THE HOTEL AND NIKHEF

Local public transport to NIKHEF may be done by bus or tram. From the Tulip Inn you may also walk (about 30 min.). Please consult the NIKHEF home page for more details.

To use public transport in Amsterdam (bus, tram, metro or train), you need a 'STRIPPENKAART' (strip ticket), available at the airport, railway station, post offices, some super markets and various small shops. Please consult the NIKHEF page ('Amsterdam Tourist Information') for more information about the intricate system of various kinds of strip tickets.

Amsterdam is divided into 12 'ZONES'. The number of strips required for a ride equals the number of zones you pass plus one (changing permitted). To go from your hotel to NIKHEF you need 3 strips.

Hiring a car is not recommended (parking problems) unless you plan to make trips to the countryside.

ACCESS TO NIKHEF (WCW AREA)

NIKHEF is located at the Science Center (WCW area). There are three magnet key operated entrance gates at the Kruislaan and one manually locked gate (for cyclists and pedestrians only) at the Ringdijk. The WCW gates are open on working days between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. If you have to enter the area outside these hours, please get a visitors key from the secretariat.
