How To Create A Secure Imap/Pop Mail Account in Pine, Kmail & Netscape

Here are the most necessity steps how to create a SECURE IMAP/POP mail account. For those who already have a imap/pop mail account the only thing you have to do is to tell your mailclient to do so. How ? If you use a Kmail please check Kmail part and go to Receiving section. For a Netscapemail user go to Netscape part and look for Server Setting and if you are using pine check the inbox-path.

Bear in mind that the description is written based on imaps assumption. If you choose for pops please read imap as pop and port 993 as 995.

Pine Configuration

Start Pine and Choose

Setup → Config

If you need the issuer certificate for linux on your laptop or pc, you can copy it by typing
scp your_login@login.nikhef.nl:/usr/share/ssl/certs/16da7552.0 /usr/share/ssl/certs/

Kmail Configuration

Start Kmail and choose:

Settings → Configure KMail → New

Choose → General

Choose → Advanced (optional)

Choose → Signature (optional)

Network → Sending → Add

If you choose Sendmail:

If you choose SMTP:

Network → Recieving → Add

Choose → General

Choose → Security

Miscellaneous

Netscape Configuration

Start Netscape and hold CTRL+2 keys.
If you start from the scratch a Account Wizard will comes up
If that is the case Cancel, Exit and Choose:

Edit → Mail & Newsgroups Account Setting

AddAccount

Don't forget to subscribe your folders if needed by clicking rightside mouse on the Account Name
