Welcome

Welcome to the 20th annual Belgian Dutch German graduate school (BND2008) for students in particle physics. The 2008 edition will be held in holiday park 'de Krim' on Texel which is the biggest 'waddeneiland' of the Netherlands.

Aim of the school

The school is intended primarily for experimental high energy physicists in their first two years of preparing a PhD thesis. The focus of the school alternates every year beween electroweak standard model physics and strong interaction physics. This year is devoted to strong interactions with theoretical lectures on Quantum Field Theory, QCD and physics beyond the standard model. On the experimental side the central stage will be held by strong interaction physics at the LHC, both in pp and in heavy ion interactions.

Apart from the lectures there will be student sessions where those attendig the school in the second year are expected to give a short presentation of their work.

Hosts

The 2008 edition of the Belgian Dutch German summer school is hosted by the subfaculty of Subatomic Physics of the University of Utrecht. This faculty is member of Nikhef, the Dutch national institute for subatomic physics in Amsterdam.
