Other Research Projects

In addition to the ongoing scientific experiments in the area of (astro)particle physics, Nikhef is also working on several of the programmes detailed below, plus several pilots and studies for future research.

The theory programme gives a basis for the experiments, provides direction at an early stage and helps in the interpretation of the results.

Independently of the official programmes, the R&D group continues to develop  detectors and complex systems. Commercial companies sometimes express an interest in these applications, and systems designed for particle physics are often developed further for use in other applications.

Finally, the computer group is also working on the further development of the national Grid plan, to extend the network structure set up for this throughout the Netherlands. Funding was awarded for this in 2006 (BIG Grid).
